About Agar.io

Eat pellets and smaller cells to grow, and stay away from anyone bigger than you.

Agar.io puts you in control of a small cell on a giant map that looks like a petri dish. Eat the colored pellets scattered everywhere to grow, swallow players who are smaller than you and stay away from anyone bigger. The catch is that the larger you get, the slower you move, so even the biggest cell on the server is never completely safe.

Brazilian developer Matheus Valadares, who was 19 at the time, released the game for web browsers on April 28, 2015 after building it in a few days with JavaScript and C++. It spread fast, Miniclip published the iOS and Android versions in July 2015, and its success inspired the whole family of .io games that followed.

Two moves give the game its depth. Splitting launches half of your mass forward to catch a fleeing cell, and ejecting mass lets you feed a teammate or bait a rival. Green spiky viruses add risk, because a big cell that touches one bursts into many small pieces.

Tips For Growing Fast

  • Stay close to viruses while you are small, since big cells cannot chase you through them without bursting.
  • Only split when the target is clearly less than half your size, or you become the meal.
  • Grow on pellets first and avoid fights until you are big enough to win them.
  • Feeding a virus with ejected mass makes it shoot out a new virus, which can burst a large rival.

Features

  • Simple Goal: Eat pellets and smaller cells to become the biggest on the map
  • Split Attack: Divide your cell to launch part of it at a target
  • Eject Mass: Feed teammates or bait rivals with small blobs
  • Viruses: Green spikes that burst large cells into pieces
  • Live Leaderboard: The biggest cells on the server are listed on screen
  • Mobile Apps: Official iOS and Android versions from Miniclip
